Connecticut Water Service, Inc.
A splash from Connecticut Water Service (CWS) might have helped Mark Twain's Yankee wake up from King Arthur's court. CWS's subsidiary Connecticut Water Company, through its three operating divisions -- Connecticut Water, Crystal, and Unionville -- serves almost 330,000 people in 55 Connecticut towns. The non-operating holding company's subsidiaries gather water from wells and reservoirs and produce 49 million gallons daily. They also offer fire protection and other water-related services. CWS's growth strategy is based on acquisitions. In 2012 the company acquired Aqua America's Maine operations for $54 million.
