East Texas Financial Services is the holding company for First Federal Bank Texas (Firstbank), which serves individuals and businesses through four branch locations in Smith and Upshur counties. The bank offers a range of products and services that include mortgage, commercial, and consumer loans; checking and savings accounts; and safe deposit boxes. Firstbank began as a savings and loan in 1923. East Texas Financial Services had agreed to be acquired by locally owned Steele Financial Corporation, but the two parties mutually terminated the deal in 2010 after the buyer expressed concerns over an increase in nonperforming loans in Firstbank's portfolio. The bank was acquired by Prosperity Bancshares in 2013.
