It also rents skis and snowboards, operates an online store, and has shops in Japan through a partnership with AEON CO. The firm also operates about 10 stores under the SA Elite banner in several states. SA Elite stores sell high-end performance apparel, footwear, and accessories from premier brands. Founded in 1928, the firm is owned by Leonard Green & Partners. In 2016 Sports Authority filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection; it then decided to liquidate, selling all assets.
