Ascent Media Corporation has a different mountain to climb. Historically the holding company operated through subsidiary Ascent Media Group (AMG), which provided an array of services for the film and TV industries from facilities in the US, the UK, and Singapore. However, in 2010 Ascent Media switched gears and acquired security alarm monitoring company Monitronics International for about $1.2 billion. It sold AMG Creative and Media Services businesses (primarily post-production-related services) in late 2010 and AMG Content Distribution-related services in 2011. "Strategic alternatives" are sought for AMG's remaining Systems Integration unit. Liberty Media chairman John Malone holds about 30% of Ascent Media.
