In the foothills of the Cascade Range, Cascade Microtech makes test systems for microelectronics. Semiconductor makers such as Broadcom, Fujitsu Semiconductor, IBM, Intel, Samsung, and Toshiba use the company's probe cards, probe stations, and analytical probes to ensure the quality of their integrated circuits (ICs). Many of Cascade's customers use its tools to test their wireless, broadband, or other communications ICs at the wafer level, before the wafers are cut into individual chips. The company has a development alliance with test equipment giant Agilent Technologies. in February 2016 Cascade agreed to be acquired by FormFactor Inc., a key competitor, for $352 million. The deal is expected to close in mid-2016.
