First NBC Holding Company is a relatively new kid in the Old South. The bank holding company was created in 2006 to help revive New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. First NBC Holding Company operates through subsidiary First NBC Bank, which has about 40 branches in New Orleans, the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and the Florida panhandle. Beyond deposit accounts for individuals and businesses, the bank offers low-risk SBA and US Dept. of Agriculture loans to borrowers who may not otherwise qualify for lending services. Commercial and consumer real estate mortgages make up 50% of its loan portfolio, while commercial loans make up another 35%. First NBC also offers construction loans and consumer mortgages. It went public in 2013.
