Not all that glisters at Hecla Mining is gold -- in fact, a large proportion of the precious ores that it mines is made of silver. Hecla explores for and mines gold, silver, lead, and zinc. In 2014 the mining and natural resource exploration company produced 1.7 million ounces of silver, 6,702 ounces of gold, 10,394 tons of zinc, and 4,542 tons of lead. Hecla operates mines in the Alaska, and the Lucky Friday Mine in Idaho, and has interests in mines in Colorado, Nevada, and in Mexico. The company sells to metals buyers around the world, primarily to zinc producers in Asia. In 2016 Hecla acquired Mines Management.
