Ventas, a real estate investment trust (REIT), owns more than 1,300 health care properties, including senior housing communities, skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, and medical office buildings. The REIT's properties are located throughout the US and Canada, as well as in the UK. Ventas leases more than a third of its properties to long-term care providers Brookdale Senior Living, Kindred Healthcare, and Ardent Health Services. The company also is a major player in medical office buildings, owning or managing nearly 21 million sq. ft. of space. Around 55% of Ventas' business comes from resident fees and services from its senior living properties, while another 40% comes from rental income.
