Weingarten Realty Investors is landlord to some of the nation's largest retailers, including Kroger, Safeway, and The Home Depot. The real estate investment trust (REIT) owns, develops, manages, and leases commercial real estate in some two dozen US states, mainly in the South and West. The firm has interests in more than 230 developed income-producing properties and about a dozen projects at various stages of construction and development. Most of Weingarten's properties are community shopping centers anchored by major food, retail, or discount stores. The company pursues a shopping center-centric strategy.
